Abstract

Pulmonary Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (PLCH) is a form of Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH) that typically occurs in the lungs of adult cigarette smokers 1 . The pathogenesis of PLCH is unclear, but the discovery of mutations in BRAF and MAP2K1 in a subset of PLCH suggests that at least some cases are dendritic cell neoplasms 2,3 , although whether all are neoplastic is not certain3 . The presence of BRAF V600E mutations in particular is of interest, since such patients potentially can be treated with BRAF inhibitors if they have progressive disease 4 .
