Wan, Arash MomeniAbstractOver the past several decades, technical advances in breast reconstruction have resulted in the development of flaps that are aimed at progressively decreasing abdominal wall morbidity. There is, however, ongoing controversy related to the superiority of deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flaps over muscle-sparing...
Pedicled medial sural artery perforator (MSAP) flap has been described primarily for the coverage of knee and proximal third leg defects. The technique for reaching the middle third and its use as a retrograde-flow flap were never demonstrated with clarity. This retrospective report of a case-series aimed to report the author's experience in these regards.
Complex soft tissue defects of the upper extremities still have a high rate of amputation since the reconstruction of the complex soft tissue defects always is difficult even with the largest conventional free flap. The anterolateral thigh perforator (ALTP) flap is one of the most popular procedures for coverage of complex soft tissue defects of extremities. However, the problems of donor-site morbidity and inability to repair complex soft tissue defects in a one-stage procedure remain. The purpose...
The repair of spinal dysraphisms using the sac membrane with a midline inverted T-incision has been previously described. Here we present 3 cases of large spinal dysraphisms that were repaired using a modification of this technique whereby an off-midline curvilinear sac incision was used for the repair.
limb salvage is a priority in pediatric patients with bone sarcomas. The vascularized fibula flap is a versatile option, combined or not with a bone allograft. The authors evaluated the functional long-term outcomes, complications and survival of using this technique in pediatric patients.
Combined local semi-elliptical full-thickness skin graft for the closure of the free flap donor site
In the free radial forearm flap (FRFF) and free fibula osteofasciocutaneous flap (FFOF) cases, skin grafts are often required for the donor site defects. Several methods for repairing such defects have been reported,1 most of which were achieved using split-thickness skin graft and full-thickness skin graft (FTSG). However, regardless of the skin graft type harvested from the distant sites, these may lead to further complications and aesthetic damages. Local FTSG methods involving harvesting from...
Over the past several decades, technical advances in breast reconstruction have resulted in the development of flaps that are aimed at progressively decreasing abdominal wall morbidity. There is, however, ongoing controversy related to the superiority of deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flaps over muscle-sparing TRAM (MS-TRAM) flaps. Hence, the question remains unanswered as to which approach should be considered standard of care and more importantly, whether the rate of DIEP flap utilization...
The anterolateral thigh flap is becoming the flap of choice for reconstruction of soft tissue defects with primary donor-site closure. The purpose of this report was to review the reconstruction of dorsal and palmar defects of hand with anterolateral thigh flaps from one donor site. From 2016 to 2018, seven patients with dorsal and palm defects of hand were reconstructed with the anterolateral thigh flaps from the one donor site. The cutaneous perforators of the two paddles were from a common vascular...
