Glycine Betaine Effect on Dormancy in Deinococcus sp. UDEC-P1 and Psychrobacter sp. UDEC-A5 Exposed to Hyperosmotic Stress
Abstract Bacteria under stress increase the proportion of dormant cells to ensure their survival. Cold and osmotic stress are similar, because in both the availability of water is reduced. Glycine betaine (GB) is one of the most common osmoprotectants in bacteria and possesses cryoprotectant properties. Our aim was to determine whether GB modifies the proportion of dormant Deinococcus sp. UDEC-P1 and Psychrobacter sp. UDEC-A5 cells exposed to osmotic stress. Both bacterial strains...

This stable carbocation is easily observed by NMR and optical spectroscopy and is highly fluorescent. Quenching of the cation into basic solutions or by hydride transfer from triethylsilane provides access to stable dihydro and tetrahydro[3]triangulenes....

Anionic dopant delocalization through p‐band modulation endows metal‐oxide with enhanced visible‐light photoactivity
Despite the fact that anionic doping has been extensively used to broaden the visible‐light absorption of metal‐oxide based photoanodes, it can also result in detrimental effects, such as the dopant acting as a charge recombination center, that shorten the charge carrier lifetime. Therefore, developing an effective strategy for intrinsically activating these dopants to improve their visible‐light absorption while elongating the carrier lifetime is crucial. Here, a N‐doped TiO2 model reveals a conceptually...
