A Ferret Model of Inflammation-sensitized Late Preterm Hypoxic-ischemic Brain Injury
The method describes inflammation-sensitized hypoxic-ischemic and hyperoxic brain injury in the P17 ferret to model the complex interaction between prolonged inflammation and oxidative brain injury experienced in a number of late preterm infants.

Synergizing Antegrade Endoscopic with Bridging Vein Harvesting for Improvement of Great Saphenous Vein Graft Quality from the Lower Leg
Presented here is a protocol for antegrade endoscopic vein harvesting from the lower leg, which can safely be introduced in routine coronary artery bypass grafting. Vein grafts present excellent graft quality following this standardized protocol with positioning of the legs, minimally invasive access to the vein, and antegrade endoscopic vein harvesting.

Sequencing Small Non-coding RNA from Formalin-fixed Tissues and Serum-derived Exosomes from Castration-resistant Prostate Cancer Patients
Therapy resistance often develops in patients with advanced prostate cancer, and in some cases, cancer progresses to a lethal subtype called neuroendocrine prostate cancer. Assessing the small non-coding RNA-mediated molecular changes that facilitate this transition would allow better disease stratification and identification of causal mechanisms that lead to development of neuroendocrine prostate cancer.

Ultrasound-Guided Orthotopic Implantation of Murine Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma
We describe a protocol for the ultrasound guided implantation of murine-derived pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma cell lines directly into the native tumor site. This approach resulted in pancreatic tumors detectable by ultrasound scanning within 2-4 weeks of injection, and significantly reduced the proportion tumor cell seeding on the peritoneal wall as compared to surgical orthotopic implantation.

Simultaneous Flow Cytometric Characterization of Multiple Cell Types Retrieved from Mouse Brain/Spinal Cord Through Different Homogenization Methods
We present a flow cytometry method to identify simultaneously different cell types retrieved from mouse brain or spinal cord. This method could be exploited to isolate or characterize pure cell populations in neurodegenerative diseases or to quantify the extent of cell targeting upon in vivo administration of viral vectors or nanoparticles.

Mycobacterial immunomodulation and viral manipulation of neuronal copper efflux in the setting of sporadic Parkinson's Disease: a multi – hit, outside – in hypothesis of its pathogenesis
Publication date: Available online 18 November 2019Source: Medical HypothesesAuthor(s): George D. VavougiosAbstractFollowing Braak's hypothesis on the infectious pathogenesis of sporadic Parkinson's disease (sPD), several bacteria and viruses have been investigated as likely culprits. Recent research has focused on neuroinvasive influenza A viruses (IAV), whereas a genetic link between sPD and tuberculosis has arisen in LRRK2 – dependent maturation of the phagosome. An integrative, outside – in,...

Re‐assessing the applicability of the Jarman/Bell model and Kay's threshold to the insectivorous aye‐aye (Daubentonia madagascariensis)
Abstract Objectives Jarman/Bell principle and Kay's threshold suggest that large animals should not be able to sustain themselves on insects. However, animals with specialized morphological and/or behavioral adaptations violate these assumptions. Male aye‐ayes were recently identified as having an insectivorous diet despite weighing 2.5 kg. We further explored this diet/body size disparity by studying behaviors of an adult female and juvenile male aye‐aye. Materials and Methods We collected...
