Our experience of a paediatrician‐led clinic for the medical management of children with obstructive sleep disordered breathing
Abstract Background Obstructive sleep disordered breathing (OSDB) is very common in children. Adenotonsillectomy is usually curative, but there is emerging evidence that topical nasal steroids can also be effective for some children, and may avoid the need for surgery. The number of children referred for assessment of OSDB is increasing and in some departments, waiting times are long. We established a paediatrician‐led clinic for assessment and initial medical management of OSDB and in this study...

The Outcome and Decision‐making of Extracapsular Dissection for Benign Superficial Lobe Parotid Tumors: Our Experience in 144 Patients
Abstract •The outcomes and decision‐making between extracapsular dissection (ECD) and superficial parotidectomy (SP) for benign superficial lobe parotid tumors were compared. •The ECD group had less transient facial paralysis rate and shorter hospitalization days than the SP group. •The ECD and SP groups had similar permanent facial paralysis rate and tumor recurrence rate. •The tumor location was the only associated factor for the choice of surgical techniques after the multivariate analyses....

The Neanderthal teeth from Marillac (Charente, Southwestern France): Morphology, comparisons and paleobiology

Skinner, Jean-Jacques Hublin, Bernard VandermeerschAbstractFew European sites have yielded human dental remains safely dated to the end of MIS 4/beginning of MIS 3. One of those sites is Marillac (Southwestern France), a collapsed karstic cave where archeological excavations (1967–1980) conducted by B. Vandermeersch...

Dehydration and persistence hunting in Homo erectus
Publication date: January 2020Source: Journal of Human Evolution, Volume 138Author(s): Martin Hora, Herman Pontzer, Cara M. Wall-Scheffler, Vladimír SládekAbstractPersistence hunting has been suggested to be a key strategy for meat acquisition in Homo erectus. However, prolonged locomotion in hot conditions is associated with considerable water losses due to sweating. Consequently, dehydration has been proposed to be a critical limiting factor, effectively curtailing the usefulness of persistence...

Detection of rare reciprocal RUNX1 rearrangements by next‐generation sequencing (NGS) in acute myeloid leukemia
Abstract Reciprocal RUNX1 fusions are traditionally found in up to 10% of AML patients, usually associated with a translocation (8;21)(q22;q22) corresponding to the RUNX1‐RUNX1T1 fusion gene. So far, alternative RUNX1 rearrangements have been reported only rarely in AML, and the few reports so far have focused on results based on cytogenetics, FISH, and PCR. Acknowledging the inherent limitations of these diagnostic techniques, the true incidence of rare RUNX1 rearrangements may be underestimated....

Ewing sarcoma with FEV gene rearrangements is a rare subset with predilection for extra‐skeletal locations and aggressive behavior
ABSTRACT The molecular hallmark of Ewing sarcoma (ES) is a fusion involving the EWSR1 gene and a member of the ETS family of transcription factors. EWSR1‐FLI1 is the most common variant, occurring in 90% of cases, followed by EWSR1‐ERG. In rare cases the FUS gene can substitute for EWSR1 in these fusions. Only rare case reports have been described to date of ES with FEV gene rearrangements. In this study, we investigate the clinicopathologic and molecular features of 10 ES patients with FEV‐rearrangements,...

Genomic co‐amplification of CDK4/MDM2/FRS2 is associated with very poor prognosis and atypical clinical features in neuroblastoma patients
Abstract Neuroblastoma (NB) is the most common extra‐cranial malignant tumor of childhood and is characterized by a broad heterogeneity in clinical presentation and evolution. Recent advances in pangenomic analysis of NB have revealed different recurrent chromosomal aberrations. Indeed, it is now well established that the overall genomic profile is important for treatment stratification. In previous studies, eleven genes were shown to be recurrently amplified (ODC1, ALK, GREB1, NTSR2, LIN28B, MDM2,...

HPV circulating tumoral DNA quantification by droplet‐based digital PCR: a promising predictive and prognostic biomarker for HPV‐associated oropharyngeal cancers
We aimed to determine whether pre‐therapeutic assessment of HPV circulating tumoral DNA (HPV ctDNA) by droplet‐based digital PCR (ddPCR) could constitute a predictive and prognostic biomarker for HPV‐associated oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC). A mono‐institutional prospective biomarker study on 66 patients with p16+/HPV16‐positive oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) was conducted in European Georges Pompidou Hospital, Paris, France. Blood samples were collected at the time...
