Tibial motor and sural electrophysiological relationship in subjects without and patients with mild axonal peripheral neuropathy
Abstract The distal motor fibers of the tibial and sural nerves are predominantly derived from the S1 root. We aimed to describe the electrophysiological relationship of these two nerves. Clinical, radiological and neurophysiological data of patients with mild, length-dependent, peripheral neuropathy (PN) and subjects without PN were retrospectively collected and analyzed. Eighty-eight individuals without PN and 24 patients with mild axonal PN who had no evidence of lumbosacral...

Evidence for positive allosteric modulation of cognitive-enhancing effects of nicotine in healthy human subjects
Abstract Rationale Cognitive benefits of nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) agonists are well established but have generally been of small magnitude and uncertain clinical significance. A way of raising the effect size may be to facilitate agonist-induced responses by co-administering a nAChR positive allosteric modulator (PAM). Objective The aim was...

Pleomorphic Adenoma of Tongue: A Case Report
Abstract Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) of minor salivary glands accounts for less than 3% of all head and neck tumors. It is a benign tumor. Palate is the most common site followed by upper lips. Tongue is an unusual site. We present a case report of a 35-year-old male patient who presented with a mass in the ventral surface of the tongue that was diagnosed as PA on FNAC and was treated by surgical excision. Patient was followed up and no recurrence was noted.

Clinical significance of isolated abnormal intestinal findings in magnetic resonance enterography in patients with suspected small bowel disease
Abstract Purpose Magnetic resonance imaging (MRE) is a well-established adjunct diagnostic tool for the diagnosis of Crohn’s Disease (CD), as ileocolonoscopy can sometimes be falsely reassuring when CD skips distal terminal ileum. We aimed to determine the frequency and clinical significance of isolated abnormal small bowel findings in MRE with normal ileal view in ileoscopy. ...

Novel approach for connecting real driving emissions to the European vehicle laboratorial certification test procedure
Abstract Vehicle emission certification is evaluated under laboratorial conditions, where vehicles perform a standard driving cycle in controlled conditions leading to several critics, which have resulted in the implementation of the Worldwide harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) and the Real Driving Emissions (RDE) testing procedure, as a complementary certification procedure. RDE is still under debate since boundary conditions; evaluation and trip selection methods...

Logical negation mapped onto the brain
Abstract High-level cognitive capacities that serve communication, reasoning, and calculation are essential for finding our way in the world. But whether and to what extent these complex behaviors share the same neuronal substrate are still unresolved questions. The present study separated the aspects of logic from language and numerosity—mental faculties whose distinctness has been debated for centuries—and identified a new cytoarchitectonic area as correlate for an operation...

STING: a master regulator in the cancer-immunity cycle
Abstract The aberrant appearance of DNA in the cytoplasm triggers the activation of cGAS-cGAMP-STING signaling and induces the production of type I interferons, which play critical roles in activating both innate and adaptive immune responses. Recently, numerous studies have shown that the activation of STING and the stimulation of type I IFN production are critical for the anticancer immune response. However, emerging evidence suggests that STING also regulates anticancer immunity...

Lower serum expression of miR-181c-5p is associated with increased plasma levels of amyloid-beta 1–40 and cerebral vulnerability in normal aging
Abstract Background Previous studies have shown that expression levels of miR-181c are downregulated by amyloid-β (Aβ) deposition and chronic cerebral hypoperfusion, both factors largely associated with the development of AD. Moreover, reduced 2-[18F]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (FDG)-PET brain metabolism and volume loss of regions of the medial temporal lobe have been generally recognized as hallmarks of AD. Based on this evidence,...
