Pulmonary giant chondromatous hamartoma with multifocal evolution in an infant
Abstract Hamartoma is the most common benign pulmonary tumor in adults, but is rarely described in the pediatric population. Giant chondromatous and progressive forms are even rarer. We report the novel case of a 13‐month‐old infant hospitalized for giant pulmonary chondromatous hamartoma discovered during a septic episode, rapidly progressive, with severe multifocal lesions, without clear response to several cytotoxic therapies. No predisposition syndrome was identified.

Successful treatment with daratumumab for post‐HSCT refractory hemolytic anemia
Abstract Autoimmune cytopenias (AIC) following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) may cause significant morbidity and mortality and are often challenging to treat. We present a case of a pediatric patient with primary myelofibrosis of infancy caused by VPS45 protein deficiency, who developed severe refractory hemolytic anemia and immune‐mediated thrombocytopenia 3.5 months following HSCT. After the failure of several treatments, he received daratumumab, an anti‐CD38 specific...

Strategy to minimize radiation burden in infants and high‐risk medulloblastoma using intrathecal methotrexate and high‐dose chemotherapy: A prospective registry study in Japan
Abstract Background Most childhood medulloblastoma (MB) cases are curable using multimodal treatment, including craniospinal irradiation (CSI). However, late effects are a serious problem for survivors. This prospective registry study evaluated Japanese patients to determine whether a reduced radiation dose was feasible. Patients and Methods Patients with MB were classified as an infant group (<3 years old) and a high‐risk (HR) group (≥3 years old with metastasis). The HR group received...

JOIN trial: treatment outcome and recovery status of peripheral sensory neuropathy during a 3-year follow-up in patients receiving modified FOLFOX6 as adjuvant treatment for stage II/III colon cancer
Abstract Purpose Adjuvant FOLFOX therapy is an established standard-of-care for resected colon cancer. Peripheral sensory neuropathy (PSN) is regarded as the major toxicity issue related to FOLFOX therapy. There have been a few reports on the recovery status from PSN thereafter. JOIN trial investigated the tolerability and efficacy of adjuvant modified FOLFOX6 (mFOLFOX6) in Japanese patients with stage II/III colon cancer. ...

Phase 1 study of veliparib (ABT-888), a poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitor, with carboplatin and paclitaxel in advanced solid malignancies
Abstract Purpose Veliparib is an oral inhibitor of poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP)-1 and -2. PARP-1 expression may be increased in cancer, and this increase confers resistance to cytotoxic agents. We aimed to determine the recommended phase 2 dose (RP2D), maximum tolerated dose (MTD), dose-limiting toxicity (DLT), and pharmacokinetics (PK) of veliparib combined with paclitaxel and carboplatin. ...

BATF2 inhibits chemotherapy resistance by suppressing AP-1 in vincristine-resistant gastric cancer cells
Abstract Purpose Chemotherapy remains the primary treatment used to improve overall survival and quality of life for patients with gastric cancer (GC); however, multidrug resistance is a major reason underlying failure of chemotherapy. Drug resistance (DR) can arise because of molecular changes inhibiting drug–target interactions; for example, overexpression of drug efflux pumps, such as P-gp, mediated by the activation of AP-1. BATF2...

In vivo reflectance confocal microscopy for evaluating common facial hyperpigmentation
Abstract Background In clinical settings, atypical facial hyperpigmentation such as nevus of Ota, acquired bilateral nevus of Ota‐like macules (ABNOM), melasma, and café‐au‐lait spots are often missed and misdiagnosed. Summarizing in vivo reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) features of the hyperpigmentation is helpful in the diagnosis of ambiguous lesions. Methods We recruited 196 patients referred for unequivocal facial hyperpigmentation, including 55 patients with nevus of Ota, 45 patients...

Analyses of size and computed tomography densitometry parameters for prediction of keloid recurrence after postoperative electron beam radiation therapy
Abstract Background The lesion size is a risk factor for keloid recurrence after postoperative radiotherapy. However, it remains unclear whether the major axis diameter is the most appropriate parameter to evaluate lesion size, because keloids are often irregular in shape. Additionally, no previous study has investigated computed tomography (CT) densitometry parameters of keloids as potential predictors for recurrence after postoperative radiotherapy. Materials and Methods The size and...
