14-3-3 scaffold proteins mediate the inactivation of trim25 and inhibition of the type I interferon response by herpesvirus deconjugases
by Soham Gupta, Päivi Ylä-Anttila, Tatyana Sandalova, Renhua Sun, Adnane Achour, Maria G. Masucci The 14-3-3 molecular scaffolds promote type I interferon (IFN) responses by stabilizing the interaction of RIG-I with the TRIM25 ligase. Viruses have evolved unique strategies to halt this cellular response to support their replication and spread. Here, we report that the ubiquitin deconjugase encoded in the N-terminus of the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) large tegument protein BPLF1 harnesses 14-3-3...

Bruce, Bryan A. Ballif, Jason Botten Viral late domains are used by many viruses to recruit the cellular endosomal sorting complex required for transport (ESCRT) to mediate membrane scission during viral budding. Serum Protein Changes in Pediatric Sepsis Patients Identified With an Aptamer-Based Multiplexed Proteomic Approach
Objectives: Sepsis, a life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection, is a leading cause of death and disability among children worldwide. Identifying sepsis in pediatric patients is difficult and can lead to treatment delay. Our objective was to assess the host proteomic response to infection utilizing an aptamer-based multiplexed proteomics approach to identify novel serum protein changes that might help distinguish between pediatric sepsis and infection-negative...

Being green in a materialistic world: Consequences for subjective well‐being
Abstract This paper explores the potential negative side‐effects of the sustainability movement in societies with large segments of materialistic consumers. Across three studies, there is evidence that a conflict between materialistic and green value profiles can arise in consumers. When it arises, it seems to be related to diminished well‐being. Study 1 shows that consumers with a higher value conflict (VC) experienced higher levels of stress. Consumers with higher degrees of stress then reported...

The role of vascular endothelial growth factor in the hypoxic and immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment: perspectives for therapeutic implications
AbstractThe microvasculature and immune cells are major components of the tumor microenvironment (TME). Hypoxia plays a pivotal role in the TME through hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (HIF-1 α) which upregulates vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). VEGF, an angiogenesis stimulator, suppresses tumor immunity by inhibiting the maturation of dendritic cells, and induces immunosuppressive cells such as regulatory T cells, tumor-associated macrophages, and myeloid-derived suppressor c ells. HIF-1α...

Measurement of mucociliary clearance in the patients with multiple sclerosis
ConclusionWe found nasal mucociliary transport time longer in MS patients than healthy population in the present study. To the best of our knowledge, there is not any study conducted about this topic in the literature. We believe that our findings would shed a light on further studies. It is caused by pathogenic variants in the KMT2A gene. This report describes two unrelated Portuguese patients, age 11 and 17 years, with a phenotype concordant with WSS and clinical and molecular diagnosis of WSS by the identification of two novel frameshift variants in the KMT2A gene. This work also highlights the presence...
