Discussion Children can be non-verbal for many reasons with most just not wanting to talk in a given situation for a short period of time (e.g. angry with a person, scared to give a speech at school, etc.). Children may have the ability to communicate verbally but for some reason it is physically impaired for a period of time. Selective mutism (SM) “… is characterized by an individual’s consistent failure to speak in social situations in which there is an expectation to speak (e.g., at school),...

(Natural News) According to transgender dogma, using hormone therapy to try to switch genders is a completely safe, harmless and necessary line of treatment. But recently published research once again confirms that political agendas have no business in a medical setting. According to the latest research, trans women who undergo hormone therapy as part of... (Source: NaturalNews.com)
Well, October was a month of change. And not just when it comes to clocks and seasons. It started off with the country due to leave the EU on Hallowe’en – “do or die”, deal or no deal. It ended with another Brexit extension and everyone gearing up for the third general election in four years. But some things are perennial and they’re always on UNISON’s agenda. The union’s month kicked off with our retired members and police and justice staff conferences in Southport. The service group conference...
Study by Nottingham researchers shows immune response to tumour cells can reveal diseaseBreast cancer could be detected five years before clinical signs appear in patients thanks to a blood test that could identify the body ’s immune responses to tumour cells. That is the claim that has been made about research to be presented at a national cancer conference in Glasgow on Sunday. However, other cancer experts have warned these claims should be treated with caution. The study is the work of researchers...
A supply ship rocketed toward the International Space Station on Saturday with sports car parts, an oven for baking cookies and a vest to protect against radiation. Northrop Grumman launched its Cygnus capsule for NASA from Wallops Island, Virginia. The 8,200-pound shipment (3,700 kilograms) should reach the orbiting lab Monday. “Good launch all the way around,” a ground controller observed. The space station’s astronauts will test the oven by baking chocolate chip cookies from scratch and try...

ConclusionMigration cannot be experienced independently of a stutter, as both are intrinsically linked to self-identity. The combined stress of migration with stuttering amplified the perception of feeling abnormal and resulted in difficulties with establishing a stable self-identity and a sense of belonging in the new context. Participants found strength in the company of others and considered Australia to be accepting of stuttering. (Source: Journal of Fluency Disorders)

Authors: Sander RW, Osborne CA Abstract Childhood-onset fluency disorder, the most common form of stuttering, is a neurologic disability resulting from an underlying brain abnormality that causes disfluent speech. Stuttering can lead to significant secondary effects, including negative self-perception and negative perception by others, anxiety, and occasionally depression. Childhood-onset fluency disorder affects 5% to 10% of preschoolers. Early identification of stuttering is important...
I am trying to find an answer to rules concerning direct supervision. There is an Astro 2018 white paper stating that there is an exemption to direct supervision for CAH ( critical access hospital‘s) and rural hospitals less than 100 beds. There is a clear definition for a critical access hospital by CMS (and a searchable list of hospitals meeting this designation). There does not appear to be a distinct list for classification as a “rural hospital.” How can someone find out if a......
PGY2 at a "top 10" program here, and if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't apply to rad onc or even consider it. It's ridiculous how little our leadership cares about the state of the field. This change in CMS supervision will not affect expansion. In fact, I still expect programs to open because at the end of the day no one cares about what happens in 5-10 years. It's all about how much they can abuse the system now and leave unscathed. Last year, we had fewer apps, more... Perspective...

Photo credit Cristian Newman Dear Carol: My mom has been undergoing cancer treatment for months and her latest tests show stability which satisfies the oncologist. Unfortunately, this doctor only sees Mom’s cancer and has zero insight into her as a whole person. Mom had early-stage dementia before treatment, but her thought process is now so much worse that we'd like to take her off her cancer medication for a while to see if her mind clears at least somewhat. The family feels that even if this...
