Predictors of the regional variation of prostatectomy or radiotherapy: evidence from German cancer registries
Abstract Objective To assess the association of public health parameters with the regional variation in the initial treatment for prostate cancer. Methods We used data from German epidemiologic cancer registries for the years 2009–2013. Presence of a certified cancer center, a radiotherapy and/or urology institution, the district-specific GDP, and...

ALK detection in lung cancer: identification of atypical and cryptic ALK rearrangements using an optimal algorithm
Abstract Purpose IHC, FISH, and NGS are common methods of ALK evaluation in NSCLC. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether ALK false positives or false negatives occurred more often in daily routines. An approach to identify ALK fusion was then proposed. Materials and methods We analyzed 1815 cases of NSCLC, including 83 (4.6%) ALK IHC...

BMP8A promotes survival and drug resistance via Nrf2/TRIM24 signaling pathway in clear cell renal cell carcinoma
Abstract There is increasing evidence that BMPs are involved in the proliferation and drug tolerance of kidney cancer. However, the molecular mechanism of BMP8A in renal cell proliferation and drug tolerance is not clear. Here we showed that BMP8A was highly expressed in renal cell carcinoma and suggests a poor prognosis of ccRCC, promoting cell proliferation and inhibiting apoptosis detected by CCK‐8 assay and Trypan Blue Staining, flow cytometry and bioluminescence. BMP8A promoted resistance...

The B7-H4 gene induces immune escape partly via upregulating the PD-1/Stat3 pathway in non-small cell lung cancer.
Authors: Yuan L, Ye J, Fan D Abstract Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is associated with high mortality rates worldwide. The costimulatory molecule, B7-H4, a member of the B7 family, plays an important role in immune regulation, mainly by inhibiting the proliferation of T cells to achieve a negative regulatory T cell immune response. The mechanism of action of B7-H4 in non-small cell lung cancer is unknown at present. Tumor tissues from 71 patients subjected to radical pneumonectomy...

Assessment of a poly-epitope candidate vaccine against Hepatitis B, C, and poliovirus in interaction with monocyte-derived dendritic cells: An ex-vivo study.
Authors: Bahrami AA, Bandehpour M, Kazemi B, Bozorgmehr M, Mosaffa N, Chegeni R Abstract Design and application of epitope-based polyvalent vaccines have recently garnered attention as an efficient alternative for conventional vaccines. We previously have reported the in silico design of HHP antigen which encompasses the immune-dominant epitopes of Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), Hepatitis C core protein (HCVcp) and Poliovirus viral proteins (VPs). It has been shown that the HHP has...

Self-reported cognitive decline in Japanese patients with breast cancer treated with endocrine therapy.
CONCLUSIONS: Patients treated with endocrine therapy for breast cancer experience intricately intertwined impairments in several domains of cognitive function. They have an increased risk of psychological disorders corresponding to the degree of subjective cognitive function. PMID: 32114664 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Breast Cancer)
