[Series] Evidence-based support for autistic people across the lifespan: maximising potential, minimising barriers, and optimising the person–environment fit
Autism is both a medical condition that gives rise to disability and an example of human variation that is characterised by neurological and cognitive differences. The goal of evidence-based intervention and support is to alleviate distress, improve adaptation, and promote wellbeing. Support should be collaborative, with autistic individuals, families, and service providers taking a shared decision-making approach to maximise the individual's potential, minimise barriers, and optimise the person–environment...

[Comment] Setting the research agenda to secure the wellbeing of autistic people
In their Series article in The Lancet Neurology,1 Meng-Chuan Lai and colleagues provide an important new perspective on how autism can be understood, and an evidence-informed account of existing approaches to intervention and support for autistic people across the lifespan. They emphasise that the evidence base is weak, if gradually improving, and propose a tripartite support framework to secure the wellbeing of autistic individuals. Intriguingly, Lai and colleagues seek to align medical and neurodiversity...

[Correspondence] Risk of COVID-19 for cancer patients
We read the excellent Comment by Wenhua Liang and colleagues1 in The Lancet Oncology with great interest. Of 1590 cases with confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), 18 patients had a history of cancer. The authors concluded that patients with cancer had a higher risk of COVID-19 and with a poorer prognosis than those without cancer.

[Correspondence] Risk of COVID-19 for patients with cancer
The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is of international concern. We appreciated the Comment from Wenhua Liang and colleagues1 published in The Lancet Oncology on Feb 14, 2020, which, to the best of our knowledge, was the first to focus on COVID-19 infection in patients with cancer.

Orthognathic surgery induced fibrinolytic shutdown is amplified by tranexamic acid
Little is known on the systemic effects of oral and maxillofacial surgery on the hemostatic balance including the biochemical effects of tranexamic acid (TXA) on fibrin clot lysis. The study aimed to investigate the effect of orthognathic surgery on fibrin lysability, fibrin structure and D-Dimer and to evaluate the effect of TXA on these fibrinolytic measures.

Osteosynthesis of the mandibular condyle with magnesium-based biodegradable headless compression screws show good clinical results over a 1-year follow-up period
The use of titanium-based implants in mandibular condyle fractures may require implant removal because of screw penetration through the condylar surface. Biodegradable implants may avoid a second operation for implant removal and its associated possible complications. In this work, we investigated the clinical and radiological outcome of osteosynthesis of mandibular condyle fractures with biodegradable magnesium-based compression screws.

Enhancing meaning in the face of advanced cancer and pain: Qualitative evaluation of a meaning-centered psychosocial pain management intervention.
The objectives of this study were to obtain patient evaluations of the content, structure, and delivery modality of Meaning-Centered Pain Coping Skills Training (MCPC), a novel psychosocial intervention for patients with advanced cancer and pain. MCPC aims to help patients connect with valued sources of meaning in their lives (e.g., family relationships), while providing training in evidence-based cognitive and behavioral skills (e.g., guided imagery) to reduce pain. METHODS: Semi-structured...

Adapting meaning-centered psychotherapy for World Trade Center responders.
We describe the adaptation of MCP-WTC and the application of this intervention to meet the unique needs of those exposed to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 (9/11), participated in the rescue, recovery, and clean-up effort at Ground Zero, and were diagnosed with WTC-related cancer. We highlight the novel aspects of this intervention which have been designed to facilitate meaning-making in the context of the patient's response to 9/11 and subsequent diagnosis of cancer. SIGNIFICANCE...

Safety-string: A handy maneuver to control Pectus bar removal bleeding complications
The pectus bar removal procedure is often considered a simple, straightforward surgery with a low incidence of complications. However, life-threatening bleeding complications have been reported requiring major measures for hemostatic control. Our objective is to share a simple maneuver that our group has systematically included in the bar removal procedure to facilitate bleeding control in case hemorrhage occurs.

Does persistent use of radiation in women   & gt;  70 years of age with early-stage breast cancer reflect tailored patient-centered care?
ConclusionsRT rates for older women with early-stage breast cancer are declining with patient-level variation based on factors related to life expectancy and locoregional recurrence. Facility-level variation suggests opportunities to improve care delivery by focusing on barriers to de-implementation ofroutine use of RT. (Source: Breast Cancer Research and Treatment)

ConclusionA surgical protocol involving bilateral FESS along with debridement of visibly affected areas and antifungal therapy avoids repeated surgery in patients with AIFS with no change in outcomes. The absence of clinicoradiological involvement of the paranasal sinuses does not preclude the presence of invasive fungal disease in these sinuses. ZNRF3 Regulates Collagen-Induced Arthritis Through NF-kB and Wnt Pathways
AbstractAlthough the E3 ubiquitin ligase Zinc and ring finger 3 (ZNRF3) negatively regulates the Wnt signaling pathway, its function in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is elusive. Here, the effects and the mechanism of ZNRF3 on a mouse model of collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) and human fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS) obtained from RA patients were determined. Our results showed that ZNRF3 was highly expressed in tissues and FLSs compared to trauma patients. Lentivirus-mediated silencing of ZNRF3 induced...

Sodium Butyrate Downregulates Implant-Induced Inflammation in Mice
AbstractSodium butyrate (NaBu), a histone deacetylase inhibitor, has shown to exert beneficial actions attenuating inflammation in a number of intestinal and extra-intestinal diseases. However, the effects of NaBu on persistent inflammatory processes as in a response to implantation of foreign material have not been investigated. Synthetic matrix of polyether-polyurethane sponge was implanted in mice ’s subcutaneous layer of the dorsal region, and the animals were treated daily with oral administration...
