Solitary fibrous tumor of the kidney: A case report
DiscussionUp to now, only 105 cases of occurring renal SFT have been reported. SFTs are usually asymptomatic when they have a small size, that’s why the diagnosis is often delayed. Blood tests do not have any diagnostic value. Imaging features are not specific for the diagnosis of SFT which are diagnosed as renal cell carcinoma and treated as such. Typical immunohistochemical characteristic is a high positivity for CD34. As SFT has a malignant potential, careful follow-up is mandatory, searching for...

Appendiceal mucinous neoplasm mimics ovarian tumors: Challenges for preoperative and intraoperative diagnosis and clinical implication
ConclusionAppendiceal mucinous neoplasm should be considered as a differential diagnosis of pelvic mass in women. For patients who do not require fertility-sparing surgery, excision and frozen section of the bilateral ovaries and appendix regardless of the appearance of the appendix might improve the diagnosis. For older patients with peritoneal dissemination, appropriate cytoreductive surgery is recommended to reduce the clinical impact of misdiagnosis. (Source: European Journal of Surgical Oncology...

Authors: Rutledge BP, Desai P, Liu S, Luo J, Nassir R, Lihong Q, Arun M, Abdel-Rasoul M, Simon MS Abstract The anticarcinogenic effect of statins may reduce the metastatic potential of cancer cells leading to 'stage migration', with users more likely diagnosed with early rather than late stage cancer. The association between prior statin use and colorectal cancer (CRC) stage at diagnosis in the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) was investigated. Differences in dermoscopic features of merkel cell carcinoma evaluated with polarized versus nonpolarized dermoscopy
Introduction: Despite having an incidence of approximately 1600 cases per year in the United States, the dermoscopic features of Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) have not been clearly described. There is no standard nomenclature to describe MCC and no study specifically examining how use of polarized (PD) versus nonpolarized dermoscopy (NPD) impacts which dermoscopic features of MCC are visualized. Considering that PD and NPD each evaluate different depths of structures, the authors performed a systematic...

Correlating skin toxicity and steroid treatment with outcomes of anti-PD-1 therapy for patients with metastatic melanoma
Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) such as anti-programmed death protein 1 (anti-PD-1) antibodies produce durable responses in a subset of cancer patients. Several studies have associated the development of irAEs with increased treatment efficacy, though it remains unclear whether steroid treatment for irAEs interferes with the antitumor effects of ICI.
