Associations of health belief and health literacy with Pap smear practice among Asian immigrant women.
CONCLUSIONS: Results suggest that more information about Pap smear tests should be provided to young immigrant women. Health providers should be made aware that Pap smear practice among young immigrant women might be infrequent and should actively recommend that they receive the tests. To improve Pap smear practice among immigrant women, it is also crucial for educational strategies to include functional health literacy. Nurses could play an important role in explaining and recommending the Pap smear...

Assessing oncology nurses' attitudes towards death and the prevalence of burnout: A cross-sectional study.
CONCLUSIONS: Oncology nurses with more positive attitudes towards death experience less burnout. Death education and death related training including discussion of personal attitudes towards death should be part of nursing education programs, which would in turn prevent oncology nurses from burnout. [Correspondence] Ebola virus disease and breastfeeding: time for attention
This year's Global Nutrition Cluster meeting in July, 2019, offered a platform on which to discuss all nutrition-related humanitarian emergencies. Ebola virus disease (EVD) and breastfeeding in DR Congo was an obvious topic. More than 2800 cases have been confirmed in the ongoing outbreak in DR Congo; most cases are adults, and 56% of cases are women.1 Ample information is available on the presence of Ebola virus in bodily fluids such as blood, urine, and semen, and on the prevention of transmission...

Long-term survival in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients treated with targeted temperature control at 33 °C or 36 °C: A national registry study
There are limited data on long-term outcome in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients following the treatment shift of target temperature management (TTM) from 33 °C to 36 °C outside the controlled settings of randomised trials. The aim of this study was to evaluate the adherence to TTM guidelines after the publication of the TTM trial and if the change in temperature level influence six-month survival.

Short and long-term survival following an in-hospital cardiac arrest in a regional hospital cohort
Evidence about the immediate survival from in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) is well established, however, beyond discharge there is very little describing the long-term outcomes of these patients. Of the few existing studies, all have been conducted in metropolitan centres. Therefore, this study describes survival from IHCA in both the short and long-term in a large regional hospital cohort.

Safety and efficacy of endovenous ablations in octogenarians, nonagenarians, and centenarians
Endovenous ablation of the lower extremity veins has become the primary treatment of symptomatic venous reflux disease. Endovenous heat-induced thrombosis (EHIT) and recanalization are two well-known complications of these venous ablative procedures. Because the elderly represent the fastest growing demographic, our goal was to look at whether there is a difference of these complications and age distribution in octogenarians, nonagenarians, and centenarians vs the younger population.

Evaluation of pain incidence due to venous malformation based on data from 85 institutions in Japan
Depending on the size and site of the venous malformation (VM), patients with VM often experience pain and swelling. VMs in the head and neck typically have lower pain rates due to complications than VMs in the limbs and trunk. We evaluated the heuristics on VM pain by statistically analyzing data of patients with VM from a multicenter database in Japan.

Prospective study comparing the rate of deep venous thrombosis of complete and incomplete lower extremity venous duplex ultrasound examinations
A lower extremity venous duplex ultrasound (LEVDUS) examination positive for deep venous thrombosis (DVT) is an indication for anticoagulation. Incomplete examinations that fail to examine all lower extremity veins in patients not otherwise indicated for anticoagulation may be followed by repeated examination to exclude missed or progressing DVT. This study examined the frequency of incomplete LEVDUS studies, reasons for incomplete studies, veins incompletely examined, and follow-up LEVDUS after...

Evolving strategies for the management of venous thoracic outlet syndrome
Traditional management of venous thoracic outlet syndrome (VTOS) has involved catheter-directed thrombolysis (CDT) followed by transaxillary or paraclavicular (PC) first rib resection. More recently, we have adopted an infraclavicular (IC) approach for first rib resection and five other strategies to treat these patients. We report our evolving experience with the treatment of acute VTOS.

Fast-track thrombolysis protocol: A single-session approach for acute iliofemoral deep venous thrombosis
Catheter-directed thrombolysis in the treatment of acute iliofemoral deep venous thrombosis (IFDVT) often requires more than one interventional session to yield successful outcomes. Catheter-directed thrombolysis is generally expensive, requiring prolonged hospital stay that may be associated with increased local and systemic hemorrhagic complications. We developed the fast-track thrombolysis protocol (FTTP) to address these issues. The goal of FTTP is to restore patency during the initial session...

Outcomes of left renal vein stenting in patients with nutcracker syndrome
Nutcracker syndrome (NCS) is a rare condition that can be manifested with hematuria, flank pain, pelvic varicosities, or chronic pelvic congestion related to left renal vein (LRV) compression. Open surgery, specifically LRV transposition, has been the mainstay of treatment, but in the past few years, LRV stenting has emerged as a less invasive alternative without sufficient evidence to support it. This study aimed to assess outcomes of renal vein stenting in the treatment of NCS.

Prevention and treatment of dilator injuries during central venous catheter placement
Misuse of vascular dilators during the placement of central venous catheters has been infrequently reported and can lead to devastating intrathoracic hemorrhage and death. These injuries should be preventable in most cases. If a major intrathoracic vascular injury is recognized intraoperatively, less invasive treatment options are available to minimize the consequences.
