Metastatic malignant melanoma masquerading as an inflamed epidermal inclusion cyst
Introduction: Metastatic melanoma is a devastating disease with high morbidity and mortality. Melanoma is able to spread through both lymphatic and hematogenous routes, which can lead to widespread metastases. Metastatic melanoma to the skin and subcutaneous tissue commonly presents as bluish-black papules and nodules that grow rapidly in size. Ulceration and bleeding of these metastases are common. Amelanontic cutaneous metastases are much less common and more difficult to diagnose, usually presenting...

Serum CRP, endoglin, E-selectin, and Tie-1 as biomarkers in psoriasis
Although the majority of patients with psoriasis are diagnosed clinically, skin biopsy is often required in atypical cases or early in the disease process. Development of highly sensitive and specific biomarkers can substantially aid dermatologists in diagnosis and subsequent monitoring of disease progression. Additionally, some markers could serve as therapeutic targets for the development of new medications. We utilized...

The effect of smoking and other factors on the outcome of Mohs reconstruction using flaps/grafts
Background: Smoking is a common lifestyle trait that negatively affects postsurgical wound-healing. Previous smaller studies have shown that smoking may increase the rate of flap necrosis and surgical-site complications. Smoking can also down-regulate TGF-β signalling and lead to poor collagen synthesis. Therefore, smoking may also affect postsurgical scarring. Our study investigates if smoking is a risk factor for acute postsurgical complications and poor long-term cosmesis after Mohs reconstructions...

The necessity of a comprehensive physical examination in cutaneous T-cell lymphoma: A series of three patients with occult Hodgkin’s lymphoma
Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) is associated with a propensity for developing subsequent, distinct malignancies—a phenomenon likely related both to treatment side effects and decreased numbers of functional T-cells in the setting of a dominant clonal population. Patients are at highest risk for developing a second hematologic malignancy. We describe three patients, each with a histologically distinct subtype of CTCL, who were subsequently found to have new-onset lymphadenopathy during routine follow-up.

Introduction: Patients experience perioperative anxiety in Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) related to cancer diagnosis, fear of intraoperative pain, or surgical complications. Perioperative patient anxiety in MMS is associated with increased postoperative pain and decreased satisfaction. Recently, it was suggested that optimized education may reduce anxiety in MMS. Three-dimensional printed (3DP) models have demonstrated effectiveness in medical education. We aimed to determine if a 3DP MMS model...

Spontaneous reporting of injection-site reactions in patients with psoriasis in phase 3 trials of ixekizumab
Background: Injection-site reactions (ISRs) are commonly reported with biologic therapies. The objective of this posthoc analysis was to evaluate spontaneous reporting of ISRs; specifically, the type and severity of ISRs over time and discontinuation due to ISRs among patients (pts) receiving the anti-interleukin-17A monoclonal antibody ixekizumab (IXE) vs. etanercept (ETN) or placebo (PBO).

Rosacea-like autosensitization dermatitis: A case report
Autosensitization dermatitis, or Id reaction, is a cutaneous phenomenon in which an acute secondary dermatitis develops at a location distant from a primary inflammatory focus due to excess circulation of cytokines. Autosensitization frequently results from cases of infection, and multiple infectious organisms including bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi have been shown to cause reactions at sites distant to the infection. Many cutaneous morphologies have been reported in Id reactions. There...
