Brain‐derived neurotrophic factor is elevated in the blood serum of Crohn's disease patients, but is not influenced by anti‐TNF‐α treatment—A pilot study
The concentration of BDNF in CD patients is elevated compared to healthy volunteers. It does not correlate with the severity of the disease but with pain intensity and insomnia. No changes in serum level of BDNF were observed after the 14 weeks of anti‐TNF‐α treatment. Abstract Background Brain‐derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is associated with depression, pain, or sleep disorders, factors that are thought to be involved in the pathogenesis and clinical course of Crohn's disease (CD)....

A comparison of data quality using quartz vs. sapphire cell windows in analytical ultracentrifugation
Abstract Analytical ultracentrifugation (AUC) cells use either quartz or sapphire windows as end caps for the cell housing. Current generation sapphire windows are not recommended for absorbance data collection below 235 nm, because the window material shows a precipitous drop in transmittance at low wavelengths due to impurities in the sapphire. Quartz windows can be used below 235 nm as they do not exhibit adverse transmittance at low wavelengths. In this study, we demonstrate...

EMC10 Homozygous Variant Identified in a Family with Global Developmental Delay, Mild Intellectual Disability, and Speech Delay
Abstract In recent years, several genes have been implicated in the variable disease presentation of global developmental delay (GDD) and intellectual disability (ID). The endoplasmic reticulum membrane protein complex (EMC) family is known to be involved in GDD and ID. Homozygous variants of EMC1 are associated with GDD, scoliosis, and cerebellar atrophy, indicating the relevance of this pathway for neurogenetic disorders. EMC10 is a bone marrow‐derived angiogenic growth factor that plays...

3D Printed Teeth with Included Veneer Preparation Guide
Abstract Purpose The purpose of this study was the design, feasibility, and evaluation of a 3D printed tooth model with internal preparation for dental education in veneer preparation. Material and Methods A tooth with two different colored layers for the crown and the preparation form was designed and printed by a stereolithographic printer. In a voluntary course, 40 third‐ to fifth‐year dental students were trained with these printed teeth in the clinical course. They had the opportunity...

Indirect Digital Workflow for Virtual Cross‐Mounting of Fixed Implant‐Supported Prostheses to Create a 3D Virtual Patient
Abstract Mounting dental casts in an articulator is an important prerequisite for prosthodontic rehabilitation cases where the design of an accurate static and dynamic occlusion is needed. Virtual mounting can be achieved through the superimposition of various 3D images acquired from the hard and soft tissues of the patient. The purpose of this technical report is to describe a digital cross‐mounting technique for patients undergoing implant‐supported fixed prosthetic treatment. Through the use...

Anatomy and histology of the foramen of ovarian bursa opening to the peritoneal cavity and its changes in autoimmune disease‐prone mice
The mesosalpinx connecting oviduct and the cranial part of uterus has the silt‐like opening of the ovarian bursa to the peritoneal cavity, which is called the foramen of ovarian bursa. The ligament of ovarian bursa, which is the part of the mesosalpinx connecting the oviduct and uterus, surrounds the foramen of ovarian bursa and consists of the smooth muscle layer. Autoimmune disease‐prone mice show morphological alternations in the ligament of ovarian bursa. Abstract The ovarian bursa is a...

Abstract Background Limited research has examined the impact of peanut allergy (PA) on children using validated instruments to assess psychosocial burden and the factors influencing burden. Objective The PAPRIQUA study aimed to assess the caregiver‐reported impact of living with PA on children’s health‐related quality life (HRQL), correlations between PA severity and child’s sex, and associations of caregivers’ sex and anxiety with the proxy‐report of their child’s HRQL and to identify...

Could sleep paralysis be pleasant?
Abstract Sleep paralysis is an inability to move at sleep onset or upon awakening. It is often a distressing experience that can be associated with significant clinical consequences. Few studies have focussed on pleasant sleep paralysis episodes. The present study aimed to determine the relative prevalence of pleasant episodes of sleep paralysis as well as variables that may make them more likely to occur. Participants (N = 172) with recurrent episodes of sleep paralysis completed a battery of questionnaires...

Disruption of neocortical synchronisation during slow‐wave sleep in the rotenone model of Parkinson’s disease
Abstract Parkinson’s disease motor dysfunctions are associated with improperly organised neural oscillatory activity. The presence of such disruption at the early stages of the disease in which altered sleep is one of the main features could be a relevant predictive feature. Based on this, we aimed to investigate the neocortical synchronisation dynamics during slow‐wave sleep (SWS) in the rotenone model of Parkinson’s disease. After rotenone administration within the substantia nigra pars compacta,...
