Detecting Seizures and Epileptiform Abnormalities in Acute Brain Injury
Abstract Purpose of Review Acute brain injury (ABI) is a broad category of pathologies, including traumatic brain injury, and is commonly complicated by seizures. Electroencephalogram (EEG) studies are used to detect seizures or other epileptiform patterns. This review seeks to clarify EEG findings relevant to ABI, explore practical barriers limiting EEG implementation, discuss strategies to leverage EEG monitoring in various...

Delineating the electrophysiological signature of dystonia
Abstract Over the last 30 years, the concept of dystonia has dramatically changed, from being considered a motor neurosis, to a pure basal ganglia disorder, to finally reach the definition of a network disorder involving the basal ganglia, cerebellum, thalamus and sensorimotor cortex. This progress has been possible due to the collaboration between clinicians and scientists, and the development of increasingly sophisticated electrophysiological techniques able to non-invasively...

Modulation of cutaneous reflexes during sidestepping in adult humans
Abstract A common neural control mechanism coordinates various types of rhythmic locomotion performed in the sagittal plane, but it is unclear whether frontal plane movements show similar neural patterning in adult humans. The purpose of this study was to compare cutaneous reflex modulation patterns evoked during sagittal and frontal plane rhythmic movements. Eight healthy, neurologically intact adults (three males, five females) walked and sidestepped on a treadmill at approximately...

Autoimmune encephalitis concomitant with SARS-CoV-2 infection: insight from 18F-FDG PET imaging and neuronal autoantibodies
We report the case of a 72-years-old man with concomitant autoimmune encephalitis and SARS-CoV-2 infection. Methods: Review of clinical examination, CT, PET, MRI imaging, and autoantibodies testing. Results: The patient presented subacute cerebellar syndrome and myoclonus several days after general infectious symptoms. The oropharyngeal swab test was positive for SARS-CoV-2. Brain MRI was normal. CSF testing showed normal cell counts, negative RT-qPCR and no oligoclonal banding. Brain 18F-FDG-PET...

Global Impact of COVID-19 on Nuclear Medicine Departments: An International Survey in April 2020
Introduction: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has placed significant challenges on health care systems worldwide, whether in the preparation, response, or recovery phase of the pandemic. This has been primarily managed by dramatically reducing in- and outpatient services for other diseases and implementing infection prevention and control (IPC) measures. The impact of the pandemic on nuclear medicine departments and their services has not yet been established. The aim of this online...
