ABSTRACT Introduction Integration has been recognized as an important aspect of medical education. After transitioning from a discipline‐specific to a systems‐based preclinical curriculum, we examined faculty perceptions of the integrated approach and also whether it would lead to better anatomy knowledge retention. Methods To understand faculty perspectives, we reviewed curricular materials, interviewed block directors, and observed educational sessions. We analyzed knowledge retention...

The use of a specific treatment technique in radiation therapy is mainly motivated by the achievable dose conformity to the target and the overall integral dose. Proton therapy offers a highly conformal and comprehensive treatment option with a lower integral dose (reduced low-dose bath) to organs at risk (OARs). Consequently, given the proximity of cardiopulmonary structures, proton therapy has been discussed as a treatment alternative for breast cancer patients [1–3]. Treatment planning studies,...

Abstract When a person decides to do something in the future, she forms an intention and her intention persists. Philosophers have thought about the rational requirement that an agent’s intention persists until its execution. But philosophers have neglected to think about the causal memory mechanisms that could enable this kind of persistence and its role in rational long-term agency. Our aim of this paper is to fill this gap by arguing that memory for intention is a specific kind...

Ichthyosaurs were marine reptiles during the time of the dinosaurs, and scientists don't know much about their ancestry. But by CT-scanning the fossil of one of the first ichthyosaurs, scientists discovered pebble-shaped teeth hidden in its short snout. These strange teeth, probably used for crushing the shells of snails and clam-like bivalves, help illuminate the ways that early ichthyosaurs filled different roles in Triassic marine ecosystems.
Organisms carry long-term 'memories' of their ancestral homelands that help them adapt to environmental change, according to a new study that involved raising chickens on the Tibetan Plateau and an adjacent lowland site.
Why is sex so popular in nature? A new article suggests that the molecular mechanisms underlying sex and the stress response may be more tightly coupled than previously appreciated, providing a new explanation for the widespread prevalence of sex in nature.
