Validated LC-MS/MS Panel for Quantifying 11 Drug-Resistant TB Medications in Small Hair Samples
Current methods of analyzing patients’ adherence to complex drug resistant-tuberculosis (DR-TB) regimens can be inaccurate and resource-intensive. Our method analyzes hair, an easily collected and stored matrix, for concentrations of 11 DR-TB medications. Using LC-MS/MS, we can determine sub-nanogram drug levels that can be utilized to better understand drug adherence.

Measuring Erythrocyte Complement Receptor 1 Using Flow Cytometry
The aim of this method is to determine the CR1 density in the erythrocytes of any subject by comparing with three subjects whose erythrocyte CR1 density is known. The method uses flow cytometry after immunostaining of the subjects' erythrocytes by an anti-CR1 monoclonal antibody coupled to an amplified system using phycoerythrin (PE).

Joint Statement on the Role of Respiratory Rehabilitation in the COVID-19 Crisis: The Italian Position Paper
Due to the exponential growth of the number of subjects affected by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the entire Italian health care system had to respond promptly and in a very short time with the need of semi-intensive and intensive care units. Moreover, trained dedicated COVID-19 teams consisting of physicians were coming from different specialties (intensivists or pneumologists and infectiologists), while respiratory therapists and nurses have been recruited to work on and on without rest....

Microbiome composition comparison in oral and atherosclerotic plaque from patients with and without periodontitis
Abstract There is no conclusive evidence regarding a causal relationship between periodontitis and atherosclerosis. In this study, we examined the microbiome in the oral cavity and atheromatous plaques from atherosclerosis patients with or without periodontitis to investigate the role of oral bacteria in the formation of atheromatous plaques. We chose four patients with and without periodontitis, who had undergone carotid endarterectomy. Bacterial samples were extracted from the...

Associations of Small Fiber Neuropathy with Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index and Arterial Stiffness in Hemodialysis
Background. Peripheral neuropathy is a common neurological complication in uremic patients, and quantitative sensory testing (QST) is effective for diagnosis of small fiber neuropathy. Malnutrition and arterial stiffness are prevalent in patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD). The associations of small fiber neuropathy with nutritional status and arterial stiffness remain uncertain in maintenance HD patients. Methods. A total of 152 HD patients were included. Geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI),...
