Tranexamic acid to reduce bleeding after dental extraction in patients treated with non-vitamin K oral anticoagulants: design and rationale of the EXTRACT-NOAC trial
Bleeding after dental extraction in patients treated with non-vitamin K oral anticoagulants (NOAC) may lead to unplanned reinterventions and interruption of anticoagulation, thereby exposing patients to a risk of thromboembolism. We have designed a study (EXTRACT-NOAC) to investigate whether tranexamic acid (TXA) mouthwash decreases bleeding after extraction in such patients. The study is a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. We plan to randomise 236 patients listed for dental extraction...

Unusual metastatic presentations of a primary right parapharyngeal acinic cell adenocarcinoma
Acinic cell adenocarcinoma (ACA) is a malignant epithelial neoplasm of the salivary glands. The patient reported herein presented with an unusual case of a metastatic ACA originating from the right parapharyngeal region, which eventually metastasized to the ipsilateral cavernous sinus and the contralateral mandibular ramus. The trigeminal nerve may have served as a channel for the spread of the cancer from the right parapharyngeal region to the cavernous sinus, and subsequently to the left mandibular...

Radiomic signature: A novel magnetic resonance imaging-based prognostic biomarker in patients with skull base chordoma
Chordoma is a rare primary malignant bone tumor with an incidence of 1 every million individuals per year [1], and skull base chordomas (SBC) represent thirty percent of the cases [2]. SBC has poor prognosis and a 10-year survival rate of 58.7% [3]. The poor outcome is primarily due to a high rate of local recurrence [4], which was reported to be as high as 68% [5], with most recurrences occurring within 5 years after the initial surgery [6]. Local recurrence of SBC is the marker of treatment failure,...
