- First record of a fossil monkey (Primates, Cercopithecidae) from the Late Pliocene of SerbiaPublication date: December 2019Source: Journal of Human Evolution, Volume 137Author(s): Predrag Radović, Joshua Lindal, Zoran Marković, Sanja Alaburić, Mirjana RoksandicAbstractThe cercopithecid fossil record of the Balkan Peninsula extends from the Late Miocene to the Early Pleistocene, but to date no fossils of non-human primates have been identified in Serbia. Here we report the identification of two primate teeth from Ridjake, a rich paleonto
- Social evolution in Plio-Pleistocene hominins: Insights from hamadryas baboons and paleoecologyPublication date: December 2019Source: Journal of Human Evolution, Volume 137Author(s): Larissa Swedell, Thomas PlummerAbstractReconstructions of hominin evolution have long benefited from comparisons with nonhuman primates, especially baboons and chimpanzees. The hamadryas baboon (Papio hamadryas) is arguably one of the best such models, as it exhibits both the male kin bonding and the cross-sex pair bonding thought to have been important in hom
- Early Upper Paleolithic human foot bones from Manot Cave, IsraelPublication date: Available online 16 October 2019Source: Journal of Human EvolutionAuthor(s): Sarah Borgel, Bruce Latimer, Yvonne McDermott, Rachel Sarig, Ariel Pokhojaev, Talia Abulafia, Mae Goder-Goldberger, Omry Barzilai, Hila MayAbstractThe transition from the Middle Paleolithic to the Upper Paleolithic in the Levant represents a major event in human prehistory with regards to the dispersal of modern human populations. Unfortunately, the sca

- Associations between chronotype, MTNR1B genotype, and risk of type 2 diabetes in UK BiobankAbstract Objective To examine the association between the MTNR1B G risk‐allele, type 2 diabetes (T2D), and chronotype in the UK Biobank. Methods Data from the baseline investigation of the UK Biobank were utilized (n= 337,083 White British; mean age: 56.9 years; 54% women). MTNR1B rs10830963 was directly genotyped (CC (reference group), CG, and GG). Chronotype was divided into four categories: definitely morning (reference group); more
- Fructose Metabolism as a Common Evolutionary Pathway of Survival associated with climate change, food shortage and droughtsAbstract Mass extinctions occur frequently in natural history. While studies of animals that became extinct can be informative, it is the survivors that provide clues for mechanisms of adaptation when conditions are adverse. Here we describe a survival pathway used by many species as a means for providing adequate fuel and water, while also providing protection from a decrease in oxygen availability. Fructose, whether supplied in the diet (prima

- Antibiotic Dereplication Using the Antibiotic Resistance PlatformWe describe a platform that utilizes a library of isogenic antibiotic resistant Escherichia coli for the dereplication of antibiotics. The identity of an antibiotic produced by bacteria or fungi can be deduced by the growth of E. coli expressing its respective resistance gene. This platform is economically effective and time-efficient.
- Dissection of Drosophila melanogaster Flight Muscles for Omics ApproachesDrosophila flight muscle is a powerful model to study transcriptional regulation, alternative splicing, metabolism, and mechanobiology. We present a protocol for dissection of fluorescent-labeled flight muscle from live pupae to generate highly enriched samples ideal for proteomics and deep-sequencing. These samples can offer important mechanistic insights into diverse aspects of muscle development.
- A Task for Assessing the Impact of a Partner on the Speed and Accuracy of Motor Performance in RatsA procedure to measure the speed and accuracy of rats’ motor performance in a social condition is described. The protocol enables us to investigate the effect of the mere presence of others on speed and accuracy of motor performance in one experiment.
- Three-Dimensional Printing Guide Template Assisted Percutaneous Vertebroplasty (PVP)Herein, we present a three-dimensional printing guide template for percutaneous vertebraplasty. A patient with a T11 vertebral compression fracture was selected as a case study.
