Sand lizards Lacerta agilis with higher digit ratios are more likely to autotomy
In this study, we conducted a detailed analysis of the digit ratio patterns (2D:3D, 2D:4D and 3D:4D) in Lacerta agilis , Lacertidae and Squamata. Obtained results indicated a clear dimorphic pattern for most digit ratios, whereby the digit ratios of all four limbs were significantly lower in females than in males. Furthermore, a clear relationship between caudal autotomy and right forelimb 2D:4D ratio has been shown, such that individuals with autotomy are characterized by higher 2D:4D ratios....

A comprehensive diagnosis of a desmoplastic small round cell tumor of unusual location based on fine‐needle aspiration cytology: Report of a case arising in the parotid gland and review of the literature
Abstract Desmoplastic small round cell tumor (DSRCT) is rare and a highly aggressive neoplasm that typically involves the soft tissues of the abdomen or pelvis in children or young adults, showing a male predilection. Although it can occurs over a wide age range, the peak incidence is in the third decade of life. DSRCT usually shows widespread abdominal serosal involvement, and overall patient survival is poor. On the other hand, extra‐abdominal DSRCT is very rare. DSRCT in major salivary glands...

Cancer survival statistics for patients and healthcare professionals – a tutorial of real‐world data analysis
Abstract Monitoring survival of cancer patients using data collected by population‐based cancer registries is an important component of cancer control. In this setting, patient survival is often summarized using net survival, that is survival from cancer if there were no other possible causes of death. Although net survival is the gold standard for comparing survival between groups or over time, it is less relevant for understanding the anticipated real‐world prognosis of patients....

Disparate effects of hormones and vigabatrin on sleep slow waves in patients with West syndrome – An indication of their mode of action?
Abstract Synaptic downscaling during sleep, a physiological process to restore synaptic homeostasis and maintain learning efficiency and healthy brain development, has been related to a reduction of the slope of sleep slow waves (SSW). However, such synaptic downscaling seems not to be reflected in high‐amplitude SSW. Recently we have shown reduced SSW slopes during hormonal treatment (adrenocorticotrophic hormone, prednisolone) in patients with West syndrome (WS). Yet, whether this reduction was...

Helicobacter pylori Oncogenicity: Mechanism, Prevention, and Risk Factors
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is the most common cause of gastric ulcer; however, its association with gastric cancer has been proved through a variety of studies. Importantly, H. pylori infection affects around half of the world’s population leading to a variety of gastric problems and is mostly present in asymptomatic form. Although about 20% of people infected with H. pylori develop preneoplastic gastric lesions in later stages of their life, around 2% of infected individuals develop gastric...

Can we Use Conceptual Spaces to Model Moral Principles?
Abstract Can the theory of conceptual spaces developed by Peter Gärdenfors (2000, 2014) and others be applied to moral issues? Martin Peterson (2017) argues that several moral principles can be construed as regions in a shared similarity space, but Kristin Shrader-Frechette (2017) and Gert-Jan Lokhorst (2018) question Peterson’s claim. They argue that the moral similarity judgments used to construct the space are underspecified and subjective. In this paper, we present new data...
